Threat
Personnel are at risk of injury and equipment at risk of damage in emergency situations if battery-operated or electric stand-alone smoke detectors are not installed and in working order.

Guidance
1. Battery-operated or electric stand-alone smoke detectors shall be installed in the facility. 2. All battery-operated smoke detectors shall have their batteries checked and changed if necessary every time there is a universal time change, such as moving to Day-Light Savings Time. 3. Electric stand-alone smoke detectors shall have adequate emergency power in the case of the facility losing power. 4. Documentation of all testing procedures shall be stored at the facility. 5. Documentation of all tests performed shall be logged and verified through internal audit verification in accordance with standard operating procedures.
